Private Client Solicitor 3+ PQE
Private Client Solicitor
Gloucester | £35,000 - £45,000
Helping clients plan for the future, protect their interests and navigate some of life's most personal legal decisions requires more than technical expertise. It takes sound judgement, empathy and the ability to make complex matters feel manageable.
An established law firm in Gloucester is looking to recruit a Private Client Solicitor to join its team, advising clients across wills, trusts, probate, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Court of Protection matters.
This opportunity would suit a solicitor looking to build their private client expertise within a varied practice, taking responsibility for their own matters while contributing to the development of the wider department. You'll work directly with clients on important personal and financial decisions, providing clear, considered advice and building relationships founded on trust.
With exposure to a broad range of private client work, this role offers scope to strengthen your technical knowledge, develop your client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of an established legal practice.
The Role
You'll advise clients on a varied range of private client matters, managing files from initial consultation through to completion while ensuring advice is tailored to their circumstances and objectives.
Your responsibilities will include:
Wills & Estate Planning: Drafting wills and advising clients on how best to structure their affairs and plan for the future.
Trusts: Advising on trust arrangements and preparing appropriate trust documentation to meet clients' requirements.
Lasting Powers of Attorney: Advising on LPAs, preparing applications and managing registration processes.
Probate & Estate Administration: Advising clients on probate matters and supporting the administration of estates.
Inheritance Tax: Advising on inheritance tax considerations and relevant estate planning options.
Court of Protection & Capacity: Handling capacity-related matters and deputyship work, helping protect the interests of clients who require support managing their affairs.
Client Consultations: Conducting initial consultations, assessing client requirements and directing enquiries appropriately.
Case Management: Managing your own workload, maintaining accurate files, prioritising deadlines and ensuring matters progress efficiently.
Financial & Commercial Management: Monitoring work in progress, managing client funding arrangements and working towards monthly and year-end fee targets.
Business Development: Building professional relationships, networking and identifying opportunities to generate new work.
Team Collaboration: Working with colleagues to develop the department, maintain consistent standards and support effective day-to-day operations.
The Opportunity
Private client work offers the opportunity to develop lasting relationships with individuals and families, often supporting them through significant life events and important financial decisions.
This role provides exposure to several connected areas of practice, from wills and estate planning to trusts, probate and capacity matters. That breadth offers a strong foundation for developing your expertise while building confidence in advising clients with different needs and circumstances.
You'll also have the opportunity to contribute beyond your own caseload, supporting the department's development through client relationship management, networking and business development.
For a solicitor with at least one year's PQE or equivalent experience, this could be an appealing opportunity to broaden your private client experience within an established practice and continue developing your professional skills.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to speak with Private Client Solicitors who combine sound technical knowledge with a thoughtful, organised and client-focused approach.
You'll ideally have:
Experience: At least one year's PQE or equivalent relevant experience in private client law.
Qualifications: Qualification as a Solicitor in England and Wales.
Technical Knowledge: Experience in one or more of wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, probate, trusts, inheritance tax or Court of Protection matters.
Client Care: Strong communication skills and the ability to explain legal issues clearly, sensitively and professionally.
Caseload Management: The ability to organise your own workload, prioritise competing demands and meet deadlines consistently.
Attention to Detail: A careful approach to drafting, documentation, file management and compliance.
Commercial Awareness: An understanding of fee targets, work in progress and the importance of effective matter management.
Business Development: An interest in developing professional relationships and contributing to the growth of the department.
Teamwork: A collaborative attitude and the ability to work effectively with colleagues while taking responsibility for your own matters.
IT Skills: Confidence using legal case management systems and maintaining accurate electronic records.
