Litigation Solicitor (part-time)
Litigation Solicitor | Part-Time
Newark | £45,000 - £65,000 FTE
Looking for a role that offers genuine responsibility for your own cases, a varied litigation caseload and the flexibility of part-time working?
An established law firm in Newark is looking to recruit an experienced Litigation Solicitor to join its team on a part-time basis. This is an opportunity for a confident litigator who enjoys working directly with clients, handling a broad range of disputes and taking ownership of matters from initial instruction through to resolution.
You'll manage your own caseload while working closely with a Partner on departmental matters, giving you the opportunity to combine independence with collaboration and contribute to the continued delivery of a high-quality legal service.
For an experienced solicitor seeking a part-time position without stepping away from challenging legal work, this could be an excellent next move.
The Role
You'll handle a varied caseload of contentious matters, advising clients on their options, developing appropriate strategies and progressing disputes towards effective outcomes.
The precise balance of work will depend on your experience, with opportunities across several areas of litigation.
Your responsibilities will include:
Case Management: Running your own caseload, taking responsibility for matters from initial instruction through to conclusion.
Civil & Commercial Litigation: Advising on disputes, assessing the merits of claims and identifying appropriate strategies for resolution.
Property Litigation: Handling contentious property matters, including landlord and tenant disputes.
Employment Matters: Advising on employment-related disputes where these align with your experience.
Contentious Probate: Assisting clients with disputes concerning estates, inheritance and related contentious matters.
Client Advice: Explaining legal options, risks and potential outcomes clearly, helping clients make informed decisions.
Negotiation & Resolution: Exploring settlement opportunities and progressing matters efficiently, including through formal proceedings where necessary.
Partner Support: Working alongside the departmental Partner on relevant cases, sharing expertise and contributing to the wider team's work.
The Opportunity
Part-time litigation roles can be difficult to find, particularly where the position still offers meaningful responsibility and a varied caseload.
This opportunity provides the chance to continue practising at a high level while working on a part-time basis. You'll retain ownership of your own matters, maintain direct client relationships and have the opportunity to work closely with a Partner on a range of disputes.
The breadth of work also means the role could suit a generalist litigator who enjoys variety, as well as someone whose experience is concentrated in particular areas of contentious law.
Whether you're looking to achieve a better balance between work and other commitments or simply want a part-time position that makes full use of your experience, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
What We're Looking For
We're keen to speak with experienced Litigation Solicitors who can manage their own matters confidently and provide practical, commercially aware advice.
You'll ideally have:
Experience: At least four years' post-qualification experience.
Qualifications: Qualification as a Solicitor in England and Wales.
Litigation Expertise: Experience in one or more of civil and commercial litigation, employment disputes, property litigation, landlord and tenant matters or contentious probate.
Independent Case Management: The ability to take ownership of files and progress matters with appropriate autonomy.
Client Relationships: Strong communication skills and the confidence to advise clients directly.
Technical Ability: Sound drafting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Commercial Awareness: A practical approach to assessing risk, costs and the most appropriate route to resolution.
Teamwork: The ability to work effectively alongside a Partner and contribute to the wider department.
Experience across every listed practice area isn't essential. A strong background in one or more relevant areas may be suitable, depending on the nature of your experience.
Salary & Benefits
The salary and wider package have not been specified, with remuneration likely to reflect experience and the agreed part-time working arrangement.
The key attraction is the opportunity to combine independent case responsibility with a part-time working pattern in an established legal practice.
